Found in my Rome notebook...

...re-writes of the two most infamous squibs in Modernist poetry, done as I was walking through a thunderstorm in St. Peter's Square.

Ezra Pound:

In a Colonnade of St. Peter's:

The apparition of these faces in the crowd;
petals on a wet, white bough.

William Carlos Williams:

so much depends
upon

a rash Christendom
student

struck by light
ning

beside the fat
pigeons.
